Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

Casting Every Care upon God

A marriage concern can become so consuming that it dominates waking thoughts, conversations, and decisions. The burden feels personal and urgent because it matters deeply. Yet carrying it continually in human strength can produce exhaustion, irritability, and fear.

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (1 Peter 5:7 KJV)

Peter does not say that our cares are meaningless. He tells us to place them upon God because He genuinely cares. Casting is an act of humble dependence that transfers the controlling weight from our limited strength to His faithful care.

Name the burden clearly and pray, “Lord, we place this in Your hands.” Then identify what remains your responsibility and what belongs only to God. Complete the responsible action without repeatedly trying to control the outcome.

Because anxious cares often return, casting may need to be repeated. Use the returning worry as a reminder to pray rather than as proof that prayer failed. Encourage one another gently instead of criticizing recurring fear.

Prayer: Caring Father, we place every burden of our marriage upon You. Show us what to do and what to release. Guard us from control, fear, and exhaustion. Help us rest in Your personal and faithful care. Amen.

Your marriage matters to God because both of you matter to Him. His care is greater than the concern that presently fills your vision. You may carry responsibilities faithfully without carrying the future as though God were absent.

If you miss one, two, or many days, don’t worry about it and don’t try to catch up. Just start where you are and keep going. We have found the Holy Spirit can prompt you to return to just the passage you need for today.

This is an ongoing labor of love because these marriage devotionals will never be finished, but we have to start somewhere, so we will update often. We appreciate your support and prayers because this is a work of God not us. And please forgive us because we have never found a verse that doesn’t apply to marriage somehow.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)
