Daily marriage devotionals for growing godly marriages

Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. (2 Peter 2:20)

"2 Peter 2:20" states, “For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.” The Greek word for “entangled” in this verse is “emplekō,” which means to become interwoven or involved in something.

In a marriage relationship, it is easy to get caught up in the affairs of this world and lose focus on our relationship with God. However, it is important to guard against this and stay focused on our relationship with Him.

Here are five practical examples from the Bible of how to guard against getting entangled in the affairs of this world in your marriage:

  1. Prioritize your relationship with God: Make sure that your relationship with God is the top priority in your life, even above your relationship with your spouse.

  2. Spend time in prayer and Bible study: Regularly spending time in prayer and Bible study can help you stay grounded in your faith and guard against the temptations of this world.

  3. Surround yourself with godly friends: Surrounding yourself with other believers who can encourage and challenge you in your faith can help keep you focused on God.

  4. Avoid things that lead you away from God: Be mindful of the things in your life that lead you away from God and make a conscious effort to avoid them.

  5. Serve others: Serving others in the name of Jesus can help keep you focused on Him and His purposes, rather than getting caught up in the affairs of this world.

By guarding against getting entangled in the affairs of this world, you can strengthen your relationship with God and with each other, bringing glory to Him in your marriage.
