These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
Scripture Correcting Both Spouses
During disagreement, each spouse may focus upon the other person’s faults while overlooking personal attitudes and actions. Scripture is then used selectively, as though God’s Word were intended only to correct the person across the room.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 KJV)
All Scripture comes from God and is useful for teaching, exposing error, correcting direction, and training believers in righteous living. Both husband and wife must stand beneath its authority and allow it to address their own hearts.
When reading a passage about marriage, begin with personal application. Each spouse should answer, “What does this correct in me?” Only afterward should the couple discuss shared patterns or responsibilities. This reduces defensiveness and encourages mutual humility.
Commit to studying passages in context rather than collecting isolated verses for arguments. Invite a mature teacher or counselor when interpretation is disputed. The goal is not simply more information but fuller obedience and readiness for good works.
Prayer: God, thank You for Your inspired Word. Teach, correct, and train both of us. Protect us from using Scripture as a weapon. Make us humble learners who are equipped to love and serve faithfully. Amen.
God’s Word is sufficient to expose unhealthy patterns and guide meaningful change. When both spouses submit to Scripture, the marriage gains a stable authority stronger than emotion, preference, or cultural pressure.
