These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
Grace within Weakness
Weakness often becomes a source of shame in marriage. Illness, emotional limitation, disability, temptation, or exhaustion may cause a spouse to feel defective. The other partner may become frustrated because attention remains fixed upon what cannot presently be done.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV)
God did not remove Paul’s weakness as requested. He promised sufficient grace and revealed that Christ’s strength could be displayed through human limitation. Weakness does not make a believer worthless or place a marriage beyond God’s usefulness.
Discuss limitations without contempt or denial. Adjust responsibilities realistically, seek appropriate care, and identify ways each spouse can still contribute. Do not compare present ability with a previous season or with another couple’s circumstances.
Practice receiving help without shame and offering help without superiority. Thank God for one way His strength has appeared within weakness. This changes the focus from lost ability to present grace.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, let Your sufficient grace meet us in weakness. Protect us from shame, impatience, and comparison. Show Your strength through our limitations, and teach us to care for one another with dignity and tenderness. Amen.
Your weakness is not the end of your usefulness or the measure of your worth. Christ can rest His power upon the very place that feels inadequate and make your marriage a testimony of sustaining grace.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)
