Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

He called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits. (Mark 6:7)

In Mark 6, we see the story of Jesus sending out his disciples on a mission to spread the Gospel and heal the sick. He gives them specific instructions and sends them out two by two, emphasizing the importance of being in community and working together as a team.

This passage can also be applied to marriage, as it highlights the danger of trying to do things on our own and the importance of working together as a team. In marriage, it can be easy to become isolated and focused on our own needs and desires, but this can lead to division and conflict. When we try to go it alone, we can become vulnerable to attack and prone to making mistakes.

On the other hand, when we work together as a team in marriage, we can support and encourage each other, hold each other accountable, and learn from each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We can also accomplish much more together than we ever could on our own.

In addition to the practical benefits of teamwork, there is also a spiritual aspect to consider. When we work together in marriage, we can model the unity and love that should characterize the body of Christ. We can also bear witness to the power of God’s love to bring people of different backgrounds and perspectives together in common purpose.

In summary, Mark 6 teaches us the danger of solo ministry and the importance of working together as a team in spreading the Gospel. By applying this principle to our marriages, we can more effectively fulfill God’s calling on our lives and make a greater impact for His kingdom.
