Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26 WEB)

Ezekiel 36:26 says, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” This verse is a powerful reminder of the transformative work that God can do in our lives. It speaks to the fact that God has the power to change us and give us new hearts - hearts that are open and receptive to His love and guidance.

As a married couple, it is important to remember that God is constantly at work in our lives, shaping us and molding us into the people He desires us to be. We should be open to His work in our hearts and willing to let Him transform us. This might involve confessing and repenting of our sins, seeking forgiveness from one another, and surrendering control to God.

One way to invite God’s transformative work in our lives is by prayerfully asking Him to give us new hearts and to help us grow in our love for Him and for one another. We can also make it a habit to read the Bible and allow it to speak to our hearts and minds, shaping our thoughts and actions. By seeking God’s guidance and surrendering to His will, we can experience the fullness and joy that He desires for us in our marriage.

Thoughts to ponder

  • If you have a cold stony heart towards your spouse, stop right now, and ask the Lord to restore your heart of flesh.

  • Otherwise, you will have the same veil over your heart, and you will never be able to restore your marriage.

  • But God is able to transform you from glory to glory — and your marriage too.

This is an ongoing labor of love because these marriage devotionals will never be finished, but we have to start somewhere, so we will update often. Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)
