Daily marriage devotionals for growing godly marriages

Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)

The Greek word for “example” in this verse is “tupos,” which means a pattern, model, or imprint. As Christians, we are called to be examples not just in our personal lives, but also in our marriages.

In the Bible, we see numerous examples of couples who set a godly example in their marriages. For example, Proverbs 31 highlights the character and actions of a virtuous wife, and Ephesians 5:22-33 teaches about the sacrificial love a husband should have for his wife.

Here are five practical ways to be an example in your marriage:

  1. Speak kindly to each other: The way we communicate with our spouse sets an example for others to follow. Choose to speak words of love, encouragement, and respect in your marriage.

  2. Show love in action: Love is not just a feeling, but also demonstrated through our actions. Regularly make an effort to serve and show affection to your spouse.

  3. Live out your faith together: Your marriage can be a powerful testimony to others of the transformative power of God’s love. Read the Bible together, pray together, and serve together.

  4. Maintain sexual purity: Purity in thought and action is important in all areas of our lives, including our sexual relationship with our spouse.

  5. Lead by example: Model the qualities you desire in your spouse. Lead by example in forgiveness, humility, and putting others before yourself.

By being examples in our marriages, we can inspire and encourage others in their own relationships and bring glory to God.
