Daily marriage devotionals for growing godly marriages

Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city. (Proverbs 16:32)

In this verse, Solomon reminds us that he who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit is better than he who takes a city. This principle of self-control is an important one to apply in our marriages, as it helps us to navigate conflicts and challenges in a healthy and constructive way.

Self-control means being able to regulate our emotions and actions in a way that is respectful and appropriate. It means being able to think before we speak or act, and to consider the impact of our words and actions on our spouse and on our relationship.

In marriage, self-control is especially important when it comes to conflicts and challenges. It can be easy to react in anger or frustration when we are feeling hurt or upset, but this often leads to more harm than good. By exercising self-control and seeking to regulate our emotions and actions, we are better able to navigate conflicts and challenges in a way that preserves the love and respect in our relationship.

As you and your spouse seek to cultivate self-control in your marriage, remember the importance of regulating your emotions and actions in a way that is respectful and appropriate. Seek to think before you speak or act, and consider the impact of your words and actions on your spouse and on your relationship. When we exercise self-control, we are better able to navigate the challenges and conflicts that come our way, and we create a stronger and more loving bond with our spouse.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)
