These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
Looking unto Jesus
The focusing illusion places one problem at the center of vision until it appears to determine everything. A spouse’s failure, a frightening diagnosis, or an uncertain future can become larger in thought than the Savior Himself.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2 KJV)
Looking unto Jesus means deliberately turning attention away from competing objects and fixing it upon Him. He began our faith, endured the cross, conquered shame, rose victoriously, and now sits at the Father’s right hand.
When the problem dominates conversation, pause and ask, “What is true about Jesus right now?” Remember His finished work, present intercession, sufficient grace, sovereign authority, and promised return. Then reconsider the problem beneath those larger realities.
Begin and end each day with a brief act of looking to Christ through Scripture and prayer. Repeated redirection trains the heart not to deny trouble but to refuse giving trouble the central place that belongs to Jesus.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, our attention is easily captured by fear, disappointment, and pain. Turn our eyes toward You. Let Your person, work, promises, and glory become greater in our vision than every present problem. Amen.
The difficulty may remain real, but it does not belong on the throne of your marriage. Christ does. As both spouses look toward Him, the problem can return to its proper place beneath His wisdom, power, and love.

If you miss one, two, or many days, don’t worry about it and don’t try to catch up. Just start where you are and keep going. We have found the Holy Spirit can prompt you to return to just the passage you need for today.
This is an ongoing labor of love because these marriage devotionals will never be finished, but we have to start somewhere, so we will update often. We appreciate your support and prayers because this is a work of God not us. And please forgive us because we have never found a verse that doesn’t apply to marriage somehow.
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)

While both men and women deserve both love and respect, in the midst of conflict the driving need for a woman is love and the driving need for a man is respect.
