These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
Peace Guarding Heart and Mind
Couples may assume peace will come only when every circumstance is settled. Until then, minds remain alert for danger, and hearts remain defensive. The unresolved problem becomes a guard at the door, allowing fear to enter while keeping rest outside.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7 KJV)
God’s peace can guard the heart and mind before circumstances change. This peace is rooted in Christ, not in complete information or guaranteed outcomes. It protects believers from being ruled by anxiety while they continue facing real responsibilities.
Protect one another’s peace by refusing threats, exaggerated predictions, and unnecessary late-night conflict. Pray, make the responsible decision available today, and postpone nonurgent discussion when both spouses are exhausted or emotionally flooded.
Create peaceful rhythms: regular sleep, quiet prayer, worship, walks, device-free conversation, and moments of thanksgiving. These practices do not manufacture divine peace, but they remove avoidable noise and help the heart receive what God provides.
Prayer: God of peace, guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Quiet anxious thoughts, restrain fearful speech, and help us create a home where truth, prayer, and trust can flourish. Amen.
Peace does not require knowing every detail of the future. It rests in knowing the Savior who holds the future. Christ can steady your hearts even while important questions remain unresolved.

If you miss one, two, or many days, don’t worry about it and don’t try to catch up. Just start where you are and keep going. We have found the Holy Spirit can prompt you to return to just the passage you need for today.
This is an ongoing labor of love because these marriage devotionals will never be finished, but we have to start somewhere, so we will update often. We appreciate your support and prayers because this is a work of God not us. And please forgive us because we have never found a verse that doesn’t apply to marriage somehow.
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)

While both men and women deserve both love and respect, in the midst of conflict the driving need for a woman is love and the driving need for a man is respect.
