Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. (Psalms 37:4)

Trust in the LORD and do good.
Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you your heart’s desires.
Commit everything you do to the LORD.
Trust him, and he will help you.
He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. (Psalms 37:3-6 NLT

Psalms 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” This verse is often used as a promise from God that if we seek Him and His will first, He will grant us the desires of our hearts.

But what does it mean to delight ourselves in the Lord? It means that we prioritize our relationship with God above all else. It means that we make time for Him in our daily lives, whether through prayer, reading the Bible, or attending church. It means that we seek to please Him in all that we do.

When we delight ourselves in the Lord, our hearts and desires become aligned with His. We begin to see the world through His eyes and understand His will for our lives. This can bring great peace and joy, even in difficult circumstances.

In marriage, delighting ourselves in the Lord can have a transformative effect. It can bring us closer together as a couple, as we seek to honor and serve Him together. It can also help us to weather the storms of life, as we trust in His sovereignty and rely on His strength.

And it goes beyond that. When we trust the LORD and obey his word, he has promised to “bring it to pass.” The Hebrew word emphasizes the absolute ability to act.

So, let us make it our goal to delight ourselves in the Lord, and trust that He will give us the desires of our hearts as we seek Him first.
