Daily marriage devotionals for growing godly marriages

Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. (James 1:21-22 WEB

The test of real faith is that it changes us. (Romans 12:1-2) Therefore, we need to actively allow God to plant his word into our souls. And we need to let him change the way we think so we can exercise his word in our lives. Otherwise, we are just fooling ourselves.

We know Christians who would never miss a church function. They take copious notes. They highlight every verse in their Bible. They always read their devotionals. But they keep doing the same terrible things they have always done. They keep fighting each other. They keep cheating each other. And they keep hurting everyone around them.

Some of these people are not really saved. They only have an intellectual understanding of God. But they have not surrendered their lives to him. And they have never accepted his sacrifice for their sins.

  • If this describes you, and you aren’t 100% certain of where you will go when you die, please take a moment to get right with God. Because nothing in this devotional will do you any good without Jesus Christ living in your heart.

  • On the contrary, a Christian has been crucified with Jesus Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection. So, they have a new life with God. Therefore, sin does not have power over them anymore. (Romans 6:11; Colossians 3:3)

Next steps

No matter how busy you are, you always find time to do the things you want to do. Therefore, you must replace the things you don’t want to do with things you do want to do. Whenever you find yourself taking time to do something you don’t want to do. Stop, take that thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and replace it with something you do want to do.

If you miss one, two, or many days, don’t worry about it and don’t try to catch up. Just start where you are and keep going. We have found the Holy Spirit can prompt you to return to just the passage you need for today.

This is an ongoing labor of love because these marriage devotionals will never be finished, but we have to start somewhere, so we will update often. We appreciate your support and prayers because this is a work of God not us. And please forgive us because we have never found a verse that doesn’t apply to marriage somehow.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)
