We are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. But we are not supposed to remain in the new-born baby state forever. The Bible says “add to your faith” because this pattern is intended for our lives.
The Bible describes a pattern for our lives in the relationship of God the father, God the son, and the Holy Spirit. Leaders are supposed to demonstrate godly faithful living in obedience to the scriptures. Christians are supposed to follow godly leaders as they follow Christ. And everyone is supposed to obey God in everything.
- I want my faith stirred not shaken
- Whose faith follow (Hebrews 13:7)
- Examine yourselves test your faith (2 Cor 13:5)
Add to your faith
We need to grow up in maturity of our Christian faith. We can’t remain as milk-fed babies forever. Therefore, we need to add to our faith.
Live lives for others to follow
As James says, it is not enough to just have faith that you keep to yourself. The Christian life is a life of obedient service. Remember, Jesus Christ came to serve. And we are supposed to follow his example. Therefore, we need to lead faithful lives for others to follow.
