These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)
Based on Romans 8:31, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
As Christians, it is important to remember that we are not alone in our struggles and challenges, and that God is always with us. In marriage, it is crucial to be there for our spouse, offering support, encouragement, and comfort in all circumstances.
Here are 5 practical ways to be there for your spouse in your marriage:
Listen attentively. When your spouse needs to talk, give them your full attention and offer a listening ear.
Offer words of comfort and encouragement. Use kind and uplifting words to offer hope and support to your spouse when they are going through difficult times.
Show physical affection. A hug, a kiss, or a simple touch can be comforting and reassuring to your spouse.
Be a shoulder to cry on. When your spouse is upset or emotional, offer comfort and support without judgment or criticism.
Pray for your spouse regularly. Ask God to give you the strength and wisdom to be there for your spouse, and to give them peace, comfort, and hope.
In the Greek, the word for “for us” in Romans 8:31 is “huper,” which means to be over, to be above, or to be in the presence of. In marriage, it means to be present and available to offer support, comfort, and encouragement to your spouse.
Examples of being there for others in the Bible can be seen in the actions of Jesus, who was always present and compassionate with those in need, and in the actions of Paul, who encouraged the Corinthians to “bear one another’s burdens” in Galatians 6:2.
Let us strive to follow these biblical examples in our marriages by being there for our spouse, offering support, comfort, and encouragement in all circumstances.
