These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
The Greater Weight of Glory
A single affliction can feel heavier than everything else in life. Its emotional weight dominates conversations, decisions, and expectations. The couple may begin to believe that present suffering will define both their marriage and their future.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; (2 Corinthians 4:17 KJV)
Paul called affliction light and momentary only when comparing it with eternal glory. He was not minimizing suffering. He was restoring proper scale by placing temporary pain beside the everlasting future God has promised.
When discussing the burden, acknowledge its real weight and then deliberately remember what is greater: Christ’s resurrection, eternal life, future restoration, and God’s continuing work. Do not allow the trial to become the only truth spoken in your home.
End difficult conversations with one statement of eternal hope. This practice does not erase pain, but it keeps suffering within a larger biblical frame and protects the marriage from despair.
Prayer: Father, our affliction feels heavy, but Your promised glory is greater. Help us face present pain honestly without losing eternal perspective. Strengthen us to endure together with faith, patience, and hope. Amen.
The burden is real, but it is not permanent. God has prepared a future whose weight and glory will far exceed everything you presently endure. Your pain will not have the final word.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)
