Daily marriage devotionals for growing godly marriages

Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; (Psalms 1:1)

I am always amazed that the world’s greated collection of wisdom, poetry, worship, and praise starts with this admonition and direction.

This verse highlights the importance of surrounding ourselves with godly influences and avoiding those that might lead us astray. It’s easy to get caught up in the ways of the world and to follow the crowd, but this verse reminds us that true blessing comes from following God’s ways and avoiding the company of those who mock and reject Him.

Next steps

One way to live out this verse is by being intentional about the people we allow into our lives. This doesn’t mean we should isolate ourselves from those who don’t believe in God, but it does mean we should be mindful of the influence they have on us. We should seek out relationships with people who encourage us in our faith and help us to grow closer to God.

Another way to live out this verse is by being careful about the media and entertainment we consume. We should be mindful of the messages and values that are being promoted and seek out content that aligns with God’s Word and His ways.

And finally, we need to remember that the world is going to grow worse and worse as the end times approach. But God and His word will never change. (Hebrews 1:12; 13:8) Therefore, we need to keep focusing on the end game.

Brothers and sisters, I do not regard myself as having taken hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14 NASB

Thoughts to ponder

As you strive to live out this verse in your own life, remember that it takes effort and intentionality. But the rewards of following God’s ways and surrounding ourselves with godly influences are well worth it. May God bless you as you seek to honor Him in all aspects of your life.
