These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety, not with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing, but with good works, which is appropriate for women professing godliness. (1 Timothy 2:9-10)
Paul reminded Timothy of the gospel, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all.”
Therefore, he instructs women to adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation. This passage can also be applied to our marriages, as we seek to honor God in all aspects of our lives, including our appearance.
Honoring God in our appearance means dressing modestly and in a way that reflects our values and commitment to Him. It also means avoiding extremes or excesses in our appearance, and dressing with propriety and moderation. This may look different for each couple, depending on their cultural and personal preferences, but the key is to seek to honor God in the way that we present ourselves to others.
In addition to dressing modestly and with propriety, it is also important to be mindful of the message that our appearance conveys to our spouse and to others. When we take care of our appearance and present ourselves in a way that reflects our love and respect for God and for our spouse, we are demonstrating our commitment to our marriage and to living in a way that pleases Him.
As you and your spouse seek to honor God in your marriage, remember the importance of dressing modestly and with propriety. Seek to present yourselves in a way that reflects your values and commitment to Him, and be mindful of the message that your appearance conveys to your spouse and to others.
