These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
Now accept one who is weak in faith, but not for disputes over opinions. (Romans 14:1)
Romans 14:1 says, “Welcome those who are weak in faith, but not for the purpose of quarreling over opinions.” This verse speaks to the importance of being accepting and welcoming towards one another, even when we have differences in belief or opinion. It reminds us that we are all on a journey of faith and that it is not our place to judge or argue with one another over our beliefs.
As a married couple, it is important to remember that we are in this life together and that we should support and encourage one another in our faith journey. This means being accepting and open to one another’s beliefs and opinions, even if they differ from our own. It also means being willing to have open and honest conversations about our beliefs, while being respectful and loving towards one another.
One way to practice this type of acceptance and openness in our marriage is by making it a habit to discuss our beliefs and opinions with one another in a respectful and loving way. We can also pray for one another, asking God to help us be accepting and open to one another’s beliefs and to give us the grace and wisdom to navigate any differences in opinion. By welcoming one another in this way, we can experience a deeper level of connection and unity in our marriage.
