These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him. “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?” (Matthew 22:35-36)
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
As Christians, we are called to love God with all of our being and to love others as ourselves. This is not always an easy task, especially in the context of marriage. When we are constantly surrounded by the same person, it can be easy to get caught up in our own needs and wants, and forget about the needs and wants of our spouse.
But when we prioritize loving God and others in our marriage, we are able to experience a deeper level of love and connection with our spouse. When we put God first in our marriage, we are able to see our spouse through God’s eyes and extend grace and love to them in a way that reflects God’s love for us.
Furthermore, when we love our spouse as ourselves, we are able to put their needs and wants on par with our own. This doesn’t mean sacrificing our own needs, but rather finding a balance in which both spouses feel loved and valued.
So, as you go about your day and interact with your spouse, remember the greatest commandment: love God and love others. When we make this a priority in our marriage, we will be able to experience a deeper level of love and connection with our spouse and with God.
Prayer
Dear God, help us to prioritize loving you and others in our marriage. Help us to see our spouse through your eyes and to extend grace and love to them. Help us to find balance in putting their needs and wants on par with our own. We pray for a deeper level of love and connection in our marriage. Amen.

If you miss one, two, or many days, don’t worry about it and don’t try to catch up. Just start where you are and keep going. We have found the Holy Spirit can prompt you to return to just the passage you need for today.
This is an ongoing labor of love because these marriage devotionals will never be finished, but we have to start somewhere, so we will update often. We appreciate your support and prayers because this is a work of God not us. And please forgive us because we have never found a verse that doesn’t apply to marriage somehow.
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5)
