These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalms 19:14)
In Psalms 19:14, David prays that the words of his mouth and the meditation of his heart will be pleasing in God’s sight. This prayer is not only applicable to our individual relationship with God, but also to our marriage.
When we make a conscious effort to speak kind and loving words to our spouse and to meditate on positive and uplifting thoughts, it helps to bring joy and positivity to our relationship. On the other hand, when we speak harsh or unkind words and meditate on negative thoughts, it can bring negativity and conflict to our marriage.
So, how do we make a conscious effort to speak kind and loving words and to meditate on positive thoughts in our marriage? One way is to pray for guidance and wisdom from the Holy Spirit. When we seek God’s wisdom and guidance in our words and thoughts, it helps to bring a sense of peace and unity to our relationship.
Another way is to make a habit of speaking words of affirmation and appreciation to our spouse. When we express our love and appreciation for our spouse, it helps to build them up and to cultivate a sense of joy and positivity in our relationship.
So, as you go about your day, remember the importance of the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart in your marriage. Pray for guidance and wisdom from the Holy Spirit, and make a habit of speaking words of affirmation and appreciation to your spouse. When you do this, it will help to bring joy and positivity to your relationship
