These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
I desire therefore that the men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and doubting. (1 Timothy 2:8)
Paul reminded Timothy of the gospel, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all.”
Therefore, he instructs men to pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. This passage can also be applied to our marriages, as we seek to grow closer to God and to each other.
One way that the gospel can impact our marriages is by encouraging us to pray together. Praying together as a couple helps to keep our focus on God and His will for our relationship, and allows us to bring our struggles and concerns to Him. It also helps to foster a sense of unity and intimacy in our marriage.
Another way that the gospel can impact our marriages is by helping us to cultivate a spirit of holiness. This means living in a way that is pleasing to God and in accordance with His Word. When we seek to honor God in our marriages, we are better able to love and serve our spouse in a way that is pleasing to Him.
The gospel also reminds us to approach our marriage without wrath or doubting. This means seeking to resolve conflicts in a peaceful and respectful manner, and trusting in God’s plan and purpose for our relationship. When we rely on His strength and guidance, we are better able to navigate the challenges that come our way.
As you and your spouse seek to grow closer to God and to each other, remember the impact that the gospel can have on your marriage. Seek to pray together, cultivate a spirit of holiness, and approach your relationship with love and trust in God.
