Weeds seem to grow like crazy at this time of year. They grow from a seed that has not been planted on purpose. A seed blown by the wind. A seed carried by a bird. A seed transported on an animal or vehicle. Usually, they land in a crack or crevice. No one cares for them. They might not have good soil. They might not get good water. They might not get good nutrients. A seed is on its own. Whether it thrives or dies, no one cares about the weeds. But that’s not how God treats his children.
God’s children are planted on purpose
- And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved (Acts 2:47)
- But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired (1 Corinthians 12:18)
- That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither– whatever they do prospers. (Psalm 1:3)
There are no weeds in God’s church
When a person is saved, God plants them in the Church on purpose. He places each person in good soil. He supplies each person with pure water. He provides each person ideal nutrition. He cares for each person. He doesn’t let any of them perish.
- Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word (Ephesians 5:25-30)
- Christ cares for the church. (Ephesians 5:25-30)
- My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish (John 10:25-30)
You’ve been given everything you need
- My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life (John 10:10)
- God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
- so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16)
- let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think (Romans 12:1-2)
- blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)
We are commanded to help each other
- He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. (Ephesians 4:16)
- Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
- Everything must be done to help each other grow. (1 Corinthians 14:26)
- So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. (Romans 14:19)
- But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, (Jude 1:2)
