Daily marriage devotionals for growing godly marriages

Daily marriage devotionals for growing Christian marriages

These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)

Don’t boast in wisdom, might, or riches, but glory in the LORD (Jeremiah 9:23-24)

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD. (Jeremiah 9:23-24)

In these verses, God reminds us that the things that we often tend to boast about - our wisdom, strength, and wealth - are not the things that truly matter. What truly matters is our understanding and knowledge of Him and His character. He is the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness, and it is in these things that He delights.

In marriage, it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that our own abilities and accomplishments are what make us valuable. We may boast about our intelligence, our strength, or our financial success. But God reminds us that these things are not what truly matter. What truly matters is our relationship with Him and our character - how we love and serve Him, and how we treat our spouse and others.

In order to have a healthy and thriving marriage, it is important for both spouses to cultivate a spirit of humility. This means recognizing that our value and worth come from God, and not from anything that we have done or achieved on our own. It means being willing to put the needs of our spouse and our marriage above our own desires and ego. It also means seeking to understand and know God more deeply, and allowing His love, justice, and righteousness to shape our actions and attitudes in our marriage.

As you and your spouse seek to grow in humility and cultivate a deeper understanding and knowledge of God, you will find that your marriage becomes more fulfilling and more pleasing to Him. Remember to boast not in your own wisdom, strength, or wealth, but in your understanding and knowledge of the Lord, and in the ways that you seek to honor and serve Him in your marriage.
