These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life (1 Peter 3:7a)
This verse reminds us of the important role that husbands play in their marriages. As the husband, it is your responsibility to show consideration and honor to your wife. This means treating her with respect and kindness, and being mindful of her needs and feelings.
One way to do this is by paying attention to the way you communicate with your wife. Be sure to listen to her and validate her thoughts and feelings, even if you don’t necessarily agree with them. Show her that you value her input and perspective.
Another way to show consideration and honor to your wife is by taking care of her physical needs. This might mean helping with household chores or providing for your family financially. It’s important to remember that these acts of service are not just about taking care of practical needs, but also about showing love and respect for your wife.
And this verse reminds us that there is an eternal spiritual aspect to the marriage vow. Your wife is a “joint heir of the grace of life” with you. She is a child of God. Therefore, you should treat her as a princess. Not the fake storybook kind. But with real-world love and honor.
Finally, this verse reminds us that our prayers will not be hindered if we show consideration and honor to our spouse. When we prioritize our relationship with God and with our spouse, our prayer life will be strengthened and enriched.
Thoughts to ponder
As you seek to live out this verse in your own marriage, remember that it takes effort and commitment to show consideration and honor to your spouse. But the rewards of a healthy, loving marriage are well worth the effort. May God bless your marriage as you seek to follow His Word.
