These daily marriage devotionals are compiled from verses that we have shared with Christian couples in many counseling sessions over many years. Please read one per day and meditate on how it applies to your marriage. (Note: if you are not certain you are a Christian, please read The Sinner’s Prayer)
That your prayers may not be hindered. (1 Peter 3:7b)
As you embark on this journey of marriage, it is important to remember the power of prayer. Prayer can bring you closer to God and to each other, and it can also bring peace and strength in the face of challenges. However, there are times when our prayers may be hindered, or not seem to be as effective as we would like them to be. Here are a few things to consider as you pray together as a couple:
Make sure you are both committed to seeking God’s will in your marriage. This means being willing to listen to each other and to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. It also means being willing to follow God’s plan for your lives, even when it is difficult or inconvenient.
Confess any sin that may be hindering your prayer life. It is important to be honest with God and with each other about any sin that may be causing a barrier in your relationship with Him. Confessing your sin and repenting of it can help to clear the way for more effective prayer.
Pray with a humble and contrite heart. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). When we come before God with a humble and repentant heart, He is more likely to hear and answer our prayers.
Pray with a spirit of unity. When you pray together as a couple, it is important to do so with a spirit of unity. This means praying for each other’s needs and for the needs of your marriage, rather than just praying for your own desires.
Trust in God’s timing and plan. Sometimes our prayers are not answered in the way we expect or in the timing we desire. It is important to trust that God’s plan and timing are perfect, and to continue to seek Him and His will for your marriage.
Remember, prayer is a powerful tool in your marriage. As you pray together and seek God’s will, He will guide and strengthen your relationship. May your prayers be a source of blessing and strength in your marriage. Amen.
