The rest of the story

One of my favorite features of the noonday news used to be Paul Harvey’s The Rest of the Story segment, which aired from 1976 to 2009. This series presented “true mysteries from history” of little-known or forgotten facts about well-know and common people and events. It was always exciting to hear the name of the person who did such an unexpected thing. They even compiled the most popular 82 stories into Paul Harvey’s the Rest of the Story.

One of my fondest hopes of heaven is Jesus Christ’s The Rest of the Story show. I hope that every interaction between people that resulted in a person being born again to eternal life will be revealed. Every seed planted. Every plant watered. Every God-given growth.

Who then is Apollos, and who is Paul, but servants through whom you believed; and each as the Lord gave to him? I planted. Apollos watered. But God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are the same, but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s farming, God’s building. (1 Corinthians 5:5-9 WEB)

I think this is more than an idle dream because King David prayed for The Rest of the Story.

Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it. (Psalm 90:16-17 KJV)

So, let me encourage you to plant and water around you. Like pebbles tossed into a pond, the ripples will spread farther than you can imagine.

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7)

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” (Matthew 9:36-38 NLT)

But dedicate your lives to Christ as Lord. Always be ready to defend your confidence in God when anyone asks you to explain it. However, make your defense with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15 GWT)

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. He who is wise wins souls. (Proverbs 11:30 WEB)

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. (Revelation 2:7 KJV)

And, just like Paul Harvey, let me conclude this post with, “And now you know the rest of the story.”
