I used to like people to know what a “good” Christian I was
This video expresses a very common condition of many Christians. Here are some of the Biblical basis for the thoughts that are expressed…
- We understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:15)
- Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5)
- Everyone who loves has been born from God and knows God (1 John 4:7)
- This is love: … that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins. (1 John 4:10)
- We love Him because he first loved us (1 John 4:19)
- Everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:35)
- Who were dead in trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1)
- Dear friends, if this is the way God loved us, we must also love each other (1 John 4:11-14)
- Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful (Luke 6:36)
- Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? (Romans 14:4)
- Mercy triumphs over judgment (James 2:13)
- When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. (James 4:11)
This is no dream world or idle speculation. It is critical to the Christian life. It is fundamental to the relationship with God.
Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. (1 John 2:9)
But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them. (1 John 2:11)
Whoever says, “I love God,” but hates another believer is a liar. People who don’t love other believers, whom they have seen, can’t love God, whom they have not seen. Christ has given us this commandment: The person who loves God must also love other believers. (1 John 4:20-21)
In other words…
- If you claim to be in the light but hate a Christian brother or sister
- Anyone who hates a brother or sister
- If you claim to love God, but you don’t love other believers
- Don’t respect and admire them more than self
- All other believers, every one of them
- Even those who do not agree with you
- Even those who do not worship like you
- You are still in darkness
- You are walking around in darkness
- You don’t know where you are going
- You have been blinded by the darkness
- You are a liar!
- If you don’t love other believers, you cannot love God
- The person who loves God, must love other believers
