12. John 6:54: He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life everlasting and I
will raise him up at the last day.
John 4:21-24 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when
neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You
worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the
Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshippers will
worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeks such to
worship him. God is a Spirit, and they who worship him must worship in spirit
and in truth.
Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, we who serve God in spirit, who
glory in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
In
John 3 the Lord spoke of physical birth as a parallel to spiritual birth to
Nicodemus. In John 4 He spoke of physical water as a parallel to spiritual water
to the woman at the well. In John 6 the Lord again uses a physical example of
His flesh as heavenly bread to teach a spiritual principle.
John 6:64 It is the spirit that that gives life;
the flesh profits nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and
life.
